WHAT WE ARE LEARNING IN TERM 3
This term, we will be learning about Earth and space and electricity.
We will be developing an understanding of the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system, as well as the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth. We will also be gaining an understanding of and be able to explain why we have night and day. Whilst studying electricity, we will learn to draw symbols required to create a simple circuit diagram and build circuits in order to complete investigations around how circuit components can be affected by certain variables.
What could I do to help?
Earth and Space
Talk to family members who have experiences of electrics and who can explain to you the basics of circuits and their components.
Visit the library and search for books that will provide further information about the earth, the Moon and space.
Similarly, use the internet and browse websites including BBC Science, BBC Stargazing Live and National Geographic.
Visit a museum with Science or electricity workshops or exhibitions, like the Science museum in London, Royal Greenwich Observatory or Herstmonceux.
Please see the homework letter in your child's homework book for expectations.
Yetis, Griffins & Jackalopes - Homework set on a Friday and due in the following Thursday.
We will now be adding our weekly homework to the website as well as giving a copy to the children. (No more “I’ve left it in my tray!” excuses!)
See Below for recent homework set.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY!
(see the weekly newsletter for the most up to date events)
Children need a full PE kit in school every day including trainers.
Tracksuit bottoms can be worn outside for PE when the weather is cold. Girls need spare socks if they are wearing tights to school.
If earrings are to be worn they must be simple studs. (No earrings for PE)
YELLOW READING RECORD/DIARY BOOK!
Children must use this book to record any reading that they have done at home. We will be looking for 7 reading entries in Griffins & Yetis; 5 entries in Jackalopes. Please try to allow the children to read to an adult at home at least once a week.
For lesson timings please see the attached timetables.
Times Tables Information
All Year 3 children begin their times tables at the same stage (2x Jade). Year 4 children will begin their times tables where they finished at the end of Year 3. Children can bring home their marked test to show their parent's their score. After the weekly test, if they have achieved 100%, they receive a certificate and move onto the next stage.
The times tables below identify which times table children are working on in each colour. Please refer to this if you are unsure about which times tables your child should be learning.
